Abstract

Purpose : The aim of the study is to develop military nursing curriculum of Korea Armed Forces Nursing Academy (KAFNA).

Methods: Rapid Prototyping Instructional Systems Development (RP-ISD) was used. The literatures and current military nursing course syllabi were reviewed and 4 experienced instructors at KAFNA were interviewed to verify the current educational goal. To analyze educational needs and relevant contents, 36 newly graduated nursing officers and 40 head nursing officers working in military hospitals as well as the instructors teaching military nursing subjects were interviewed. Data was collected during the interviews and analysed into the categories and themes using content analysis.

Results: The goal, objectives, subjects, and components of military nursing curriculum were proposed in the 3 Prototypes. Based on the reviews for usability by the experts who were education specialists, nursing faculty members and experienced nursing officers, prototypes were revised in the final version. The KAFNA military nursing curriculum were finalized with 11 subjects and their detailed components.

Conclusion: The study proposed the methodology to develop a nursing curriculum, integrated with skills necessary in military nursing practice.
